 The last day of March

It's the last day of March and it's raining. Not a pouring down rain, the soft drizzly kind that makes Ireland so green. I decide that I'm going to do the full 7km all at once today as there is lots to get done. I decide too that the rain will just have to do what it does best and I'll either get wet or I won't but I'm walking anyway. I actually had a great walk and finished within 85 minutes, not bad at all I think. I found out today that a local good news newspaper wants to do a front page story of my walk since I decided I want this to be a fund raiser. Cool. Tomorrow I meet the editor and the executive director of the charity and do some photos and then I'll do what I do best: walk....See you soon, living la vida fearless, Jan

 The cold makes me wait

The cold makes me wait
I can't believe how cold it continues to be up here. Each day I wake up hoping that this will be a nice warm day to walk, which is normal since it's almost April, and it continues to be cold. The wind is really biting and, quite frankly, I only managed 2 km today. I just did not have the desire to be out walking in the cold once again. I'm glad I didn't decide to do this walk in the winter months: that would have been a challenge. I'm going to make sure I get enough sleep tonight so that I'll feel more refreshed about the walk tomorrow. No excuses now though. I'm at 50 km now and would have preferred to be closer to 60. It's still good though and I know I will make the 1000 km by Sept 21....Living la vida fearless, Jan

 Sunny and Sunshine

Sunny and Sunshine
My daughter finally made it home, wahoo! We went out for a walk together today. First I went out with my husband so that she could catch up on her sleep then we went out all of us to a local coffee shop. It's a nice sunny day today and it's lovely to be walking with my family...We think the puppy is pregnant and will know in a few weeks for sure. Did 7 km total today so that makes it 55 now: only 945 more to go! Happy Earth hour. Getting this done early so I can participate. Living la vida fearless, Jan
ps, had a runner yell at me today when I was walking along an unmarked trail. She felt I was on the "wrong side" of the trail and should have moved over. She actually made a gesture to her head that looked like a person shooting themselves. I don't think she's running far enough if she's that stressed out! Apparently I should have know that runners get one side of a trail and walkers get the other. There were lots of other people behind me so I'm guessing it was a stressful run for her.

 Sticking to it

Sticking to it
Today was the 8th day of this commitment to walk 1000 km within the Spring and Fall equinox. The first few days were exciting and I managed to get in 7km a day. Cool: I'm on my way, or so I thought. Then by day 6 complications set in. A family member was due to arrive home from an extended time away but flights got missed, more cash was needed, much time on phones and little time for sleep made for a decision to not walk one day. Once I missed one day it felt easy to miss the second day, and I really didn't feel like walking, but I did. I managed 5 km. Today was another 5 km. So far I have had 5 days of 7 km and 2 days of 5 km....a total of 45 km in 8 days. When I look at it that way I feel better and I know I'll stick to this....The weather is starting to turn warmer, 5 degrees celsius, and I saw some robins on my walk this week: a sure sign of spring. Back at it tomorrow. Living la vida fearless, Jan

 Missed flights and hospital trips

Well today was the first real day of spring. I was really looking forward to getting outside and doing my walk, finally, in the sunshine and the warmer weather....the best laid plans. Up at 530 am to take one of my beloved sisters to the hospital for an out patient surgery. Things went as well as could be expected, really, and we were home sooner than we thought. Great, time to get some homework done and then off for a walk. But wait, the phone rings and, upon answering it I hear my lovely daughter's voice. I was so excited to hear from her because she was to arrive later today from an extended trip away and we were getting her at the airport. I thought she was joking when she told me the flight had left without her..."oh good one honey. Really, what time do you land?" After some convincing I realized she was indeed, stranded at the airport. So, tomorrow is another day and she arrives later in the afternoon. I'm hoping I'll get the walk in prior to her arrival.
