 Last day in April

Well today I managed to finish 8.37 km. I am using a program called Map my Walk, www.mapmywalk.com, to check my distances and record my walks. It's a cool site actually and was sent to me by somebody else contemplating doing this walk too. It's turned a little chilly here but not snowy cold. I am longing for some warmer weather though. I was at 255 km so with the 8.37 I'm now up to 263. 37....Slow but sure. This is the point in the walk that Seth Godin refers to as The Dip in his book appropriately called The Dip.....The thrill has worn off and it's just hard work right now. I can see the end of the finish line but it's a long way off. This reminds me of how I felt when I started my certification course for my coaching practise. I am only three weeks away from completing the first leg of this certification but if you'd told me I'd finish and still be in one piece when I started the certification I probably would have laughed at you. Well here I am, almost done and committing to this walk as well....Shows what one is capable of when a decision is made to commit to something and honour the value that stands behind it.  Walking in the Rain

8 kn today which takes me up to 255! Walking in the rain with the one I love: that would be me, myself and I. I actually had a nice walk today despite the rain. There were lots of birds flying around that I don't normally see when it's sunny, there must be some bug that they like that comes out in the rain. At one point there were a pair of ducks at the side of the street and I stopped to chat with them. I know that sounds weird but they didn't try to run away from me so I was pretty close to them. They sure are pretty.....I also saw a pair of swans who have started to make their nest in a crag of rocks at the edge of the water. If the water rises even a little bit the nest won't make it but I guess they know what they're doing. I am noticing another benefit to this walk. I have lost 15 pounds and I wasn't planning on that happening. Don't get me wrong: I needed to lose weight I just didn't think this would be the way to do it. I did my usual walk, stopped at my secret place and sat under a tree in the rain listening to the water hit the shore and then made my way over to the local coffee shop. I always give myself a little treat of some sort and today it was a yummy mint tea with steamed milk in a cozy chair. Still working on getting people to donate to Lakeshore Corridor Community Team via this walk......

April 27 In Two Legs on Two Legs

Lovely day today but I was a little tired from the 15 km yesterday. I decided to break up the walk into two legs....First in the morning and then later in the day. 3.4 and then 3.6 km which still makes it 7 km for today. I have just begun to realize how much of a commitment this is going to be and how much time it will take to complete. And, it's ok...."I meant what I said and I said what I meant...." to quote Horton from Dr. Suess...Living la vida fearless, Jan

 points on a compass

224 so far and then another 13 km today takes me up to 237 km in 37 days....If I had walked for all days at 7 km each day I'd be up to 258 so I'm not too far from the goal....I am going to do another 5 km today later in the evening. I prefer, sometimes, to do the longer distances all at once. Pack a lunch, pack some good tunes, lots of water and head to the lakeshore trails. Feels more productive to me somehow....Anyway so far so good. I could have walked from my home to Orillia now with this distance. That's cool to make note of and I think I'm going to start tracking my route on a pretend across Canada map to track my progress as if I were walking across the country. I wonder where 1000 km would take me to if I headed west? I wonder where it would take me to if I headed east? Of course there's always north and south, which would take me into the US....I sense a plan developing here. Living a vida fearless, Jan
