Nourishment
Here's an ironic twist: we in North America are apparently close to morbidly obese and the world population is reaching a point of starvation. Too much food and not enough food. Add to this equation the concept of eating local, 100 miles or less, to be enviornmentally responsible , choosing fair trade/organic and green and nourishing our bodies feels, to me at least, a perplexing and complex task. We in our family have actually started a sort of back to the land concept of living, sort of the way my grandparents would have done when they were children.
I got thinking about all of this today when I read yet another headline in the paper about hormones in our food, water that is unfit to drink and food being shipped from many parts of the world so that we can have fresh strawberries in January....
What happened? When did we lose touch with what's right in front of us? When did it become essential that our meals include food out of season, just because we want it, and covered in pesticides so that we wouldn't have bruises on our apples? What happened to nourishing food/yummy delectable soul filling food fresh from a garden or local market?
Often in my coaching practise I hear people tell me they don't feel fulfilled, they don't feel the passion in their lives anymore, they don't feel that their soul is being nourished. It's common, sad to say, for many people to feel lost and unsure of what their heart is asking of them. The thought that it's ok to do what you love, to savour each day and to create a life full of yummy and juicy moments seems very foreign to a lot of people!
There are people who are filling their bodies up with untruths, with sadness, with a lack of integrity when all they really need is to nourish that part of their soul that is asking for really deep down to their core. I know it's possible to live a life of soul filling work: I do it every day and I see it with the wonderful people that I work with. I see the change in their faces, hear it in their voices and notice it in the things they are letting go of and accepting in to bring more joy into their lives.
Growing season is fast upon us. Take a look at the garden around you, the flowers, the food, the seeds you've planted and the strength of the roots. Is it time to nourish and take care of yourSELF?
May your soul always reach for the things you love, that fill you up and nourish you with strength, joy and integrity.
Living la vida fearless,
Jan
