Taking on the Challenge
So I'll let you all in on a little secret, well maybe not a secret, but I'll tell you anyway. I decided this time last year that I was going to apply for the certification program through Coaches Training Institute having completed the required courses to do so. My perspective, it's important for the industry to set parameters and educational requirements for coaches in service of the work we do and the people who choose to play a bigger game.
I found out that I was going to be part of the parsnip pod, who thought that one up?, and would begin my classes in November. So, I began with 8 other women, yes all women this time, synchronicity set it up that way, and our teacher, Joni the great Mar. Classes and homework and the required coaching and being a coachee took up a lot of my time, (just ask my family: thank you! I love you too)
This was a 26 week process from start to finish and the exam, closed book, much writing, took me over 20 hours to complete. It doesn't take everybody that long! I was not attaching myself to the results of the exam because I felt that I had already surpassed my goal by staying committed to the work, following up and learning so much more about mySELF and my coaching.
AND now I'm boasting because I got my snail mail package today and I passed! I still have an oral exam to complete, scheduled for Sept 11, 2008 but I'm half way closer to being a CPCC, certified professional co-active coach....Right now I'm a cc, co-active coach and that's good too.
When my clients achieve something they have found challenging in their lives I always ask them how they intend on honouring their success: always. It can be easy to just let things pass and say "oh yeah I did that but now I have something else to do" and then never celebrate the greatness of the success. So, I'm celebrating! First off I called my coach and shared with him, then I emailed all my parsnip sisters and shared with them and now here we are and I'm sharing with you. Some may think this is boasting and I say "bring it on baby bring it on." Call it what you will I've achieved something in the last 18 months that I would never have thought possible without the great dreams, support from my family and co-active support from my coach.
They're bringing the hook onto the stage now so I guess I'd better wrap it up. In closing, last but never least, to all my clients who agreed to work with me while I was going through this process: my deepest and most gracious thanks to all of you. Thanks for taking a chance!
Living la vida fearless, with one less elephant in my life, Jan
