Living la Vida Fearless

 207 km in 31 days

Well it's officially now one month since I started this venture. I have just completed another 7 km which takes me up to 207....I finally feel like I'm making some progress. I am happy the weather is getting warmer. There are so many more people around now when I walk....I call the area I live in "sporty spice" town. There is one corner where there's a bike shop, a yoga studio, running store, gym and, of course, a bar for when you're finished with all that sports stuff.....We also have a river close by where two Olympic rowers train every day, now they've covered some mileage, and a lake for people who fish and do water sports, walking trails, an annual marathon that ends up close by and roller bladers all over the place....It's impossible here to not be athletic.....Living la vida fearless, Jan

 Dates and committments

Hey, I just looked at my last post and realized I am way ahead of myself...Today is Sunday April 20, which is the next day after the 19...I put the 26th on my last entry....Geez, I've got enough of a time commitment no need to add to the crunch. So, today I knew that I was at 188 and I really wanted to get to 200 km. That meant that I would have to do 12 km today. Lucky for me the sun was shining and there appeared to be no reason not finish off the 12km so I did. I packed a lunch for my husband and I and we set out for the waterfront trail. We enjoyed a nice walk, stopped at the beach for lunch and then wandered around a naturalized marsh that has a great boardwalk around the perimeter to protect the wildlife. I'm a little tired but I did it! I am now officially at 200 km, or twenty percent of the way done. I met somebody recently whose father, at the age of 96, yes 96, ran across Canada to raise funds for school kids....Now there's inspiration if ever I felt lacking. This is turning out to be quite an adventure for me and a great learning curve in many ways but especially in how limits and self-limiting beliefs can really hinder a person and keep them from pursuing their dreams....Me, I'm no where near finished what I was sent here to do, that much I have learned....Living la vida fearless, Jan

 Closer to Fine

Saturday April 26...I am now at 188 km and today I only managed to finish two km...Migraines were a thing of my past and haven't been around much lately, until today. I know when to listen to my body and this is one of those times. That takes me up to 188km.....wahoo. I did find somebody to sponsor me for my clothes that I am wearing for my walking. A lovely business owner named Gail Friedlander owns a company called Images That Suit. She has a division in Mississauga and one in Toronto. I met her at her office/warehouse last week and had a personal consultation with one of her assistants. I was looking for a new suit and I was in good hands. After we were done I thought about asking for some sponsorship with the clothes and Gail was quick to reply with an adamant yes of course we'd love to help you and I have just the outfit. My next step is getting back up there to pick it up and then back at the trails to pursue the walk. I want to thank Gail and Images That Suit for the generous spirit she showed with her response and her warmth and compassion. She's a lovely woman and I look forward to spending much more time with her.
On I go.....

 168 km in 36 days

Well past the mid way point of 200 now....I didn't realize how many kilometres I had gone until I sat down today and noted that it's only been 36 days so far...I am finding this easier some times than I thought and then other days really challenged. I went to a meeting last night and may have found a way to get a sponsor for the full walk. I am in the midst of setting up appointments to meet with them this week. I want to stay committed to the goal of 25000.00 for Lakeshore Corridor Community Team so that they don't have to close their doors this year....I'm putting it out to the universe and am willing to receive and, in the meantime, I'll just keep on walking.  The walk continues

Hi, Thanks for the comments. It was nice to "meet" you. I have found since I began my 1000 km walk that the weight issue, and in conjuction with that the hot flashes, is no longer a problem. Another added benefit to following through on this commitment. I'm so happy the weather is starting to warm up now: it just makes going outside more enjoyable. I have to admit that I actuallly look forward to the walks now and especially when I get to my "secret spot." I have created a very zen activity for myself and that's a great piece of self care from my line of work. I used to swim a mile a day and didn't think anything could replace the feeling of the water on my body as I swam through the pool...While this does not replace that feeling I am definitely enjoying the walking very much and don't miss the swimming at all right now....Hmmm....I'm beginning to sound a little athletic which, if you knew me from my younger years, could send somebody into complete hysterics. Wahoo to not caring what others think anymore. The walk continues, stay tuned. Living la vida fearless, Jan

I'm up to 155 km now and tomorrow I hope to do at least 10 to make up for some lost time. I annouced to a group today that I am wanting sponsorship and three people approached me with ideas....I am determined to make this a win/win for Lakeshore Corridor Community Team.

So far I have been promised $25 per kilometre for the first 6 kilometres. That means I am still in need of 994 km @ $25 each km....Care to join in? Living la vida fearless, Jan
